i've had problems with them in the past. i have bad knees to start off and all the jumping and falling doesn't help. also we have a couple inexperienced hitters in the middle so im getting set ALOT.

is there anything i can do to take pressure off my knees so they last through the season?

  1. Knee pads of course, are only of use, for doing dives... For the jumping - I do think that wearing proper footwear helps, anything that covers your ankles - but that is for it to be easier on your ankles...  As far as problem knees for jumping... you can actually do spikes without jumping - just by hitting the ball from your maximum height - standing up.  If you do a lot of practice for this, this can be natural for you.  Just purchase a cheap practice volleyball, and practice against a wall somewhere.  Just throw the ball like as in a 'set' then go forward and spike it, without jumping - and hitting it as high as you can.  If you find that this helps (ie. your knees don't tire from spiking in this fashion) - then this will work for you.  People may think you are odd for doing it this way - you can only laugh on the inside - knowing that this works for you.

Just be sure you are spiking correctly.  Using a bent elbow that straightens, and adding the extra wrist movement / flick of the wrist, when you make contact with the ball, such that you are always adding spin to your spikes.  This ensures that the ball will always land in court, and should you hit the top of the net - the ball will spin over anyhow - and also over any blockers.

  2. lay off the walking/running

    get plenty sleep

advil might help if the pain is throbbing or something...

i'm not so sure, i don't have that much of a set of weak knees..

    but just rest.

  3. I think it is called glucosomine. It is like oil to keep the bones from fluid. You can call a health store of your local pharmacey or post you question in the medical section here & I others can give you details Or you can even do a net search. I would post the question & see if others had used it & how good it is or not & if they recommend anything else.

  4. wear volleyball knee pads

  5. i have the exact same problem heres what i did and my knees no longer bug me. Go out and buy a pair of tight thin knee pads. Then go out and buy a hot and cold band. I will post a picture of it, but if necessary any tight tensor bandage somewhat what this one looks like will work to. Take the tensor bandages and put them on each of your knees, for me i put them under my knees but for some they go on top, depending on what is more comfortable. Put on your knee pads and away you go.

them are the best knee pad i use them

that is the tensor bandage i use, it doesn't need to be that one but anyone that stretches and can be wrapped tight will work.

    hope i helped
