I'm going to start physical therapy soon, but its only three sessions, and i have cross country practice everyday where we run anywhere from 2-5 miles a day. I've tried icing my knees, but the bone to the outside of my right knee wont hold out, any tips? Ive heard that ill make varsity easily, but i dont want to stop giving it my all because of my knees, HELPP!

  1. lose some weight.

  2. The only answer is your shoes. No matter how much you think it's not your shoes, it is.

But on another note, you should not run because you want to make Varsity. Say you keep running even though you feel the pain, you'll then get injured and theres no Varsity in that.

So rest, not running for a few days won't hurt you. It takes 3 weeks without running and then you start losing fitness, so rest, ice, and keep what your doing and get new shoes.

  3. You might need a few days off from intense running. If your couch has a brain about running he will give you some recovery time. Also your weight may have contributed to the pain? Are you over weight at all? If not its probably the way you run, have a friend who knows alot about runners watch you jog and then sprint you may be landing wrong or to hard. ( There is alot to running more than most people think) Send a response and maybe we can find the problem?

  4. Drinking helps me ease the pain.

    Try drinking.

  5. Rest

Heat pack, gel, spray or a warm bath (not ice, since it sounds like a skeletal problem rather than muscular one, also, ice packs are for recent injuries)

Use knee supports for training, competing and resting.

  6. .... How about you stop running and let your body recover! you'll do permanent damage and need operations just to keep you on your feet. Think of your future.

  7. Sometimes you just have to rest for things to get better. I've got the same problem with my knee right now. I've got a marathon in 2 weeks and I could barely run 3.5 miles yesterday. Lots of ice, rest, and pain reliever is all I can do. It sucks!

  8. hip flexors i have knee problems too and these should help make sure ur not buying cheap shoes they also cause high impact on the knees

  9. take few days off. and well u said u have been running for 3 years but u might want to check if u steps are too heavy and ur stepping the ground too hard. this can happen even if ur a light weight.

  10. I had the same problems. and i went to the doctors because it was causing me a lot of pain and they told me that i had runners knee. Most people can fix it with exercise but then people like me have to  go and get physical therapy. Here is a web site that has some great tips to help, http://www.bigkneepain.com/knee-exercise...
