i ordered my pro7 helmet in a black shell, i find out afterwards that it needs to be a royal blue shell otherwise its illegal on the field. I want to paint it royal blue but i heard that paint you would normally get from lowes doesn't stick to the helmet's plastic and chips off and looks bad. anyone had this problem before or think they know of a solution? please help

  1. pro 7 helmet,

preferably, it may have been better to return and exchange helmet with correct color,

rules may not allow coloring helmet, which means you need to exchange or sell and buy new, check with school/ coach/ rules,

you could use acrylic type paints to decorate, but you would be best to use automotive paint or touch-up paint to re-color helmet, also check helmet  labels for adding paint and decals, some suggestion not adding cause of weakening shell, because of helmet being in sport, dents and scratches may occur frequently, requiring touch-ups as you play anyways,

  2. If you recently got it, I also suggest returning it for an exchange because most are really expensive.  But, if you aren't able the only paint that will adhere to the plastic is Kyrlon Plastic Paint because it will chemically bond to it, won't flake, peel or fade.  You can find it at the home improvement centers in the spray paint cages.
