I have a dorm phone that is a landline. It worked last night but when I woke up, it stopped working. I checked that all the plugs were connected to the phone and into the phone jack as well but it doesn't even beep when I pick up the reciever to dial. What do I do!? I really need to call out and nobody else is home...

  1. does anybody elses phone work in the dorm if it rained hard it probably took out everybody elses phone contact the main person of the dorms and let them know

  2. contact whoever owns the line

  3. If you live in Illinois, they said half of the landlines were closed ad to go to a Police Station or Fire Station if you have an emergency. Go to your neighbors or something and use theirs! Good luck! :)

  4. By the sound of it, you have a cordless phone. If it doesn't beep when you pick it up, the battery is probably dead. Nothing you can do until it charges again. If it's not a cordless phone, you should try another phone. Yeah, I know you're alone, right now, but when you get a chance, try another device to see it it's the equipment. Otherwise, you'll have to contact whomever is responsible for your landline service, be it the actual phone company or a resident assistant. For now, you'll have to borrow somone else's cell, or make a call from the pay-phone.

  5. What makes you think it isn't your phone itself? It could be that if it is completely dead.

  6. Check to make sure all of the other phones are hung up. Unplug the phone and take it to another wall jack to see if it gets a dial tone there.

Get a working phone from another room and plug it into your nonworking jack.

Finally, call the phone company to schedule a repair visit.
