My landline phone will ring but when i anwser it the other person can't hear me and i can't hear them?

like i'll pick it up and it has a dial tone and i can dial the number, but i can't hear it ring or anything.

and when someone calls in it'll ring but when i go to anwser it, it's like no bodys there, like it's dead silence. the battery isnt dead beacause it does the same thing on the non-cordless phone and we just bought a new phone and none will work.

help?

If the phone company is telling you it isn't their problem, then you need to inspect and test all your in-house phone wiring for problems.  

Open all phone jack wall-plates and inspect the wiring.  Look for loose or broken connections.  Check for any "open connections" or "shorted connections".  Replace any wall-plate/jacks if necessary.
