My landlord put a new sidedoor on our garage, but will not give us a key to it - is this legal?

He says that if it gets locked, we can get in by opening the big sliding door, or come and borrow the key from him.

  1. i dont think its legal he should have to give a copy


  2. As long as you have access to the garage, he isn't required to provide you a copy of the key to other doors.

  3. Of course this isn't ok.  Why is he being sneaky?  If the garage is included in your lease you can remove all locks and put new ones on.... he is supposed to get a copy for emergencies but he's not supposed to enter.  Ever.

    But if he left the garage out of the lease, he was being tricky.  And not nice. It's not a good feeling to see someone enter your property.

  4. Ok...you have a SIDE-DOOR that wasn't there before to your garage...so why do you need a key?

    If you need in it, do what everyone else does:

    1.  Open the garage door.

    2.  Go through the house and use that door.

    This is a really, really stupid reason to get into a fight with your landlord.

    It's 100% legal.
