My laptop is running Vista. The wireless icon in the bottom has a red X on it and when i put my mouse over it it says "Connection status unknown, no such interface supported" and when i go view the networks and connect to one it says Connected! but it won't connect to any website and the icon doesn't change from the X. Help?

  1. Well there are so many problems that could go wrong with the internet, so it's hard to diagnose, but I will tell you how to set up wireless internet with vista:

    1. Click the start menu and enter in the search bar "Network and Sharing Center" and then push enter. A new window will open.

    2. On the left-hand side of the window select the "Connect to a Network Option" A list of available wireless networks should display (assuming your router has SSID broadcast enabled).

    3. Select your wireless network, enter in the password (if needed, which should be on or with your router, unless you manually changed it)

    4. It should automatically connect and internet should be working.

BTW - Some more information that would be helpful, does your internet work on other computers? And do you have a wireless router?

  2. You probably need some drivers.

Contact computer manufacturer for the correct drivers.

Assuming Dell/HP, their websites will give you what you need.
