is this bad for the computer? Will the battery ever get to a point where it completely dies and the computer won't turn on even if the charger is plugged into it?

I would rather use my laptop than my desktop in order to save energy, but is running the laptop always plugged into the wall using just as much electricity as running a desktop uses, or am I still saving at least a little bit?

  1. how old is ur machine and how old is the battery

laptop batteries r pretty cheap on ebay

buy the same brand as ur machine

    good luck

thres no harm if u keep machine plugged in..but whats the point

  2. It is perfectly OK to leave your computer running off the adapter all the time (the battery dying is due to aging issues that you really can't do anything about although some people will tell you to ruin the battery by discharging it every time you use it).

Even if the battery does become completely useless you'll still be able to use the computer but you'll just have to have the adapter plugged in.

You are saving quite a bit of energy using the laptop although it's likely to be pretty trivial overall.

Oh and if you want a replacement battery contact the manufacturer of your laptop and ask them about where to get it, the after market junk that shows up on eBay really cheap have a nasty habit of blowing up (venting with flame to use battery industry terminology) which is quite rare with batteries from the manufacturer (even defective ones are less likely to blow up than after market junk) and aging faster than OEM batteries.

  3. You are saving a little by using your laptop instead of your desktop, especially if you change your power settings on your laptop and don't have your display at it's brightest level. Running your laptop on AC power doesn't hurt the computer at all. If your battery is pretty much dead anyway, just take it out of the laptop. You could probably find a replacement battery on ebay for like $45 or less if you have a Dell laptop, I'm not sure what other model batteries run. In the future if you want to save the battery and run on AC power just disconnect the battery after it's charged. That will keep it from wearing out too quickly. Then always run the batter low before charging again.
