My laptop cannot find my new wireless router?

I have Virgin Broadband on my main computer and I have just bought a Belkin wireless cable router which installed successfully. I enabled Wi-Fi security and typed in a password. But when I tried to search for local wireless connections on my laptop it couldn't find it. My laptop is a Advent 7105 Sempron 3000+ so its not that old, and it alolws you to seacrh for wireless networks so it should have found it shouldn't it? Please help!

My laptop had the same problem. I tried moving the router in my house to a place that wouldn't block the Wi-Fi. I also tried unplugging it and putting the plug back in.

Make sure that on your router you didn't accidentally uncheck the Broadcast SSID. If you turned the SSID broadcast off your laptop can't discover it.  Go in to the router configuration settings and check it.

If you chose wi-fi security, you had a few options.

If you are not broadcasting your SSID, you will need to enter the SSID name into your laptop with your wireless configuration.

If you enabled MAC filtering, you will need to setup your laptop from the router so it recognizes the MAC address of your computer.

Did you set the router so it wouldnt send out a signal when you setup the security? That could be the problem.

You may need to buy a wireless network card or USB port plug in wireless card to use it.

u dont need a router u need a wireless adapter i had the same problem

That's cause your laptop doesn't have eyes...so it can't see the router.

that is why you need a swell new product called "bloodhound" from the digitek company. it can find what you are looking for. just sample the signal and turn it loose.
