I am using Windows XP. I have recently installed a Belkin Wireless router for wireless internet connection. I have a second computer, a Windows Vista, and after installing a USB Network adapter, it can connect to the web via the router.

But however, my Toshiba laptop, which is also a Vista, cannot search my wireless router!! My routers ID is not coming up, it can't be searched!! What is the problem?? Desperately need an answer, hope it's not too big a problem!! Many thanks.

  1. i have had the same problem many times, change the routers channel number, that should do the trick..

so go into the router settings and you should find a channel setting from 1-12 and change the number to a different number.

trust me it worked for me when my laptop couldnt find a connection

  2. change the wireless channel

  3. Are you sure you have switched on the wireless on your laptop? there is usually a hardware switch somewhere on the side or front . If you have, go into control panel and device manager to check it is installed properly and update the drivers if necessary.

I would also reboot the router by pressing the reset button on the back or pulling the power plug  for 30s. Upgrade the firmware to the latest version and check you have MAC filtering turned off in the router, turn off any firewall in the PC (in security settings) as your router will have one built in . Then try connecting again

I am also a little confused what OS you are using  initially you say windows XP then it seems it is a vista machine you are having a problem with

  4. i had the same problem with mine and i have toshiba too.im with sky for my broadband and it was the key word that i needed and the one they origionally gave me was wrong .
