Question:

My laptop is having issues with going to sleep and shutting down?

I have a 4-month old Inspiron 1525, and it's worked without issue until about a week ago. At least half of the time when I try to put my computer to sleep, it does not go to sleep and simply restarts instead. If I try to shut down my computer, it shuts down... and then starts up again seconds later. It does this regardless as to whether I shut my computer screen or not. I don't know if this is related, but my laptop recently decided my charger was not recognizable and would not charge. It started accepting the charger a few days ago, and I'm still not sure why it had a fit about it in the first place.

Any ideas on what could be causing this? My first inclination would be that I have a battery problem, but another part of me thinks this might be a more complex problem.

  2. Windows Vista(junk), or Windows XP ? Either or, there are a few things that you can try ! First in some BIOS(Basic Imput/Output System)programs there are switches relating to your power management. If your BIOS has the options to allow your computer to shut down hardware after a certain period of time, You may want to check that ! Also in Windows Operating Systems there is a power saving feature accessible through your Control Panel, check to see if hibernation mode is on/off ! If on check advanced options to see if switches:// allow windows to turn off hard drive, display, power source, lan/nic/wireless card, etc. You can have your BIOS working against your Windows Operating System ! Configure both accordingly/same or just turn all power and hibernation features off and manage them yourself !  GOOD LUCK !!!
