i have a HP compaq nc4010 laptop and i had a password on it a while ago but then deleted so it would just turn on without asking for a password. Time to time it would ask for the password and my old password wouldnt work so i restarted it and it didnt ask for it again. Now i changed it so that instead of asking if it wanted to log on to mine or guests it would just automatically log onto mine. today its asking for the password again, my old one is not working, and neither is restarting. What do i do????? Is there a way where i can erase everything on it?? i dont have things i need to keep on it

  2. Contact HP, and they can probably help you log into the machine as administrator and reset the password or something.

Short of that, just insert the restore CD that should have come with it, wipe it out, and start from scratch (although you will have to remove a bunch of garbage that comes loaded on it - the best bet is to find a non OEM copy of windows and use it (although you will have to go hunt down any programs from the restore CD that you did actually want).

  3. If you didn't steal the laptop, you can download a program called ophCrack which can crack Windows passwods. Go to ophrack.sourceforge.net and then download the live cd for either Windows XP or Vista. Then burn the iso image to a cd using CDBurnerXP which you can download at http://filehippo.com/download_cdburnerxp... Then put it in your drive and restart your computer and make your computer boot from the disc drive and then ophCrack will start. Select what type of mode you want to view the cracking in and then it will start cracking the passwords for every user on the computer. Only use this program for good.

  4. bk from reading your question it sounds as though it might be a user password.  This is a simpler problem to solve. In which case if you can get into Windows at all you need to look at your User Accounts in the Control Panel.  Create a new account for yourself as an administrator without any password and access the other user account and delete the password.
