My laptop keeps connecting to an unsecure network?

I have a new wireless laptop and although I've set it to connect with our Virgin wireless network, whenever I start up the computer it automatically connects to an unsecured Netgear network that I know nothing about. I've tried removing the netgear network, but it keeps appearing and connecting again, no matter what I do.

  1. its comming from one of you neighbors houses- just switch it you cant deleate their connection

  2. 1- it's possible that its your own network, any network that got no password protection is called unsecure..

2-it's possible that once upon time you've connected to your neighbour's network which gave the CPU the idea that the network is safe enough to connect to everytime,

it's most likely to be the first one

  3. When you look up the wireless connections that are available in your area there is an action that you can elect your computer to perform titled "Connect to Any Available Wireless Network" and I think you have it activated because of its ease of access (lack of security) connection. You need to disable this function and it will go away thus enabling you to set up your network, there should be a connection option for your network for you to automatically connect to your connection.

  4. Right click on the network icon in the task-bar > connect to a network or show wireless networks > highlight your router and click connect.

  5. i had this problem like yesterday.. just bought a new laptop too!

You need to select your connection as your 'preferred' network... then it should work as long as ur connection is properly set up.. if ur using Windows Vista and u need help setting it up, email me and i will tell u what i did yesterday..

  6. if you go to your connection manager and view wireless networks you can change the order of preferred networks. you might need to connect to you router with a cable and set your password. i had the same trouble and that sorted it.

and yeah, like the girl above me says, it wont say you are connected to virgin media, it will say you are connected to whatever the router is,  ie, netgear

  7. i have same problem, tried everything,so i will benefit from any ansers you get.

  8. cancel ur internet n use theres

  9. this type of problem is like........

hacking or tracing ur pc from anyone

think it could be done via trozan

    call ur pc vendor urgent

  10. Next time you try to connect, use the wireless tool to view wireless networks. There should be an option to only use encrypted  connections (safest for your own protection) or to only use these profiles, and you can select the profiles to allow.

  11. you may actually be connected to virgin wireless but your wireless box is netgear and that is why it is appearing, thats what mine does and unsecure means that it is not password protected

  12. I think you may have a serious infection at some level - maybe a keylogger.  Keyloggers record, store, and transmit your keyboard strokes to remote addresses, possibly in the hope of gaining your Username & Password details.

If you don't have Antivirus or a Firewall, you need one before connecting again.  If you already have these, make sure they are up-to-date, and run a complete scan.

It's also possible that someone near you is using your wireless connection.  Just possible.
