  1. vista did the same thing to our family computer. i'm amazed windows has not completely fixed the bugs within the software. i would recommend that you get someone to reload XP on to your system.

  2. Hello,

(ANS) OK! You can attempt to rescue your system by using the following method, its called using the "Last Known Good". At the heart (core) of Windows Vista is something called the windows registry, this is essentially a database but it holds ALL your machines complex settings.

Windows Vista will always save a backup copy of the registry, Now this backup copy of the registry can be loaded in such an emergency. To do this using the following steps:-

    No.1 Re-start your computer

No.2 Just shortly after the windows logo appears Press the F8 key once.

No.3 This should take you to a black & white screen (like an old MS DOS screen) there will be a number of menu options on this screen. Please select ONLY the "LAST KNOWN GOOD" option, & key enter or return key. Your system should now re-start by itself. Now windows will load the backed up registry.

No.4 If everything goes OK windows vista should load normally & take you back to a login screen & allow you to login as you would normal & you should see a normal Vista desktop. i.e. as before.

NOTE:- If the last known good fails to work because the registry itself is damaged then you might have a boot sector or master boot record virus. My advise would then be to take your machine to a good local computer shop & ask them if they can repair the machine for you. (DON'T take it to PC World though what ever you do they are rubbish at repairs of this type).

**Be aware that you may require windows vista to be re-installed which is NOT a small task & not for a novice user no! disrespect. As a system builder I charge any were between £70 to £170 for a complete system rebuild, this is based on how much time & skill is involved i.e. how complex a task it is.

    Hope that helps?

    Kind Regards Ivan.
