  1. Your optical drive may be defective and unable to read the CD.  Or the webcam's CD could be defective and unreadable.  Your optical drive just keeps spinning and trying to read the disc forever.

  2. Okay, is the laptop plugged in or running on batteries?  I assume its running on batteries as that would be the easiest problem to soolve with your cd player shutting the system down.....not enough power, or your power scheme is set to shut down the system when the power reaches a certain level.  Secondly....the software for your webcam is either online or on the disc...if its on the disc you don't need to download it but if the disc is causing your system to shutdown, then download it.

  3. I had the same problem with a webcam I bought, it was a Microsoft  3000 webcam,.  Then every time I wanted to open the webcam settings under the "tools" menu in MSN messenger, my computer collapsed, and restarted automatically ,. showing a warning message

I would reccomend to you, close all aplications, absolutelly everything, internet explorer, IM programs, etc and so on,.. and restart your  system. Is it a PC or MAC??,.. If you are more specific about  the steps you take,. I could figure it out MAY BE,. just MAY BE,... could be a bad optic reader in your dvd drive also, as I read here in other answer, or the disc could be damage,.. THIS IS IMPORTANT:  FOLLOW THESE STEPS:

1- write down  in a peace of paper the make, model and  manufactiurer of your webcam.

2- go to the website of  your webcam's manufacturer. For example ,. if your webcam is a "LOGITECH" or a "CREATIVE" (that is the make),. got to the appropiate web site,. either logitech.com  or creative.com and try to find the link about "support/downloads" or "drivers".

3- once you click on the link,.. try to download the specific drivers for your Model of webcam, and your Operating system ( which could be Windows xp,vista or even a Mac  computer-- I don't know what your computer is). and install them in your computer,.

Sorry,. is kinda hard to explain sometimes,. I really hope this is helpful.Good Luck,.. and Hit me back if you need any help  :)
