  1. Read Darwin's "The Origin of Species" & you might get some clues. Other sites you may want to try are:

    http://www.searchforancestors.com/surnam...

    http://www.last-names.net/Articles/Anato...

    http://www.trinity.wa.edu.au/plduffyrc/s...

  2. The name is English or Welsh just as mine is (Evans).

  3. Fermanagh is a county in north-west Northern Ireland, it is just possible Fermaner derives from that. However, many names have altered in spelling over the years, especially when the bearer of the name migrated from one area, or country to another. The only way to be certain of the origin of a person bearing any name, is to trace the lineage of that person, generation by generation. Fermaner might also be an altered or variant spelling of :

Ferman: Last name origin & meaning:

Altered spelling of German and Swiss Fehrmann.

Fehrman: Last name origin & meaning:

    Americanized spelling of Fehrmann.

Edit ; Sorry cannot find anything on Fermaner, except that it does seem to be interchangeable with the spelling Fermanagh, I'm also guessing that you are in Australia, that being just about the only country that I can find the name.

I can't find it in England or N.Ireland. A few Ferman's in England (abt 30) Some Farmaners (abt10) but no Fermanaghs or Fermaners, it does not mean there are not any at all, just means I can't find any !
