My lawn is looking rather dry and I read that you ariate it and then put sand on it?

this sounds hoaky, and seems like sand on a lawn would make it worse.

what does the sand do? other than add salt which kills lawns,

I dont understand.

help please!

  1. adding sand wont do any good unless its so hard with clay nothing would grow-then it would take so much you couldn't afford it-

    is it dry because of the season ? or not the right type of lawn for area ?


  2. Just make your lawn a desert.  Then you won't have to water it or cut it.

  3. It is good to aerate the lawn if your dirt is compacted or poor and it is a good way to get some good stuff into the lawn - but don't use sand - use compost.  If your soil is clayish and you add sand, you will end up with something like concrete.  Organic matter like compost is what you need to improve the soil.  You can just spread an inch or so over the lawn and if it has been aerated, all the better.
