  1. Over-application of the fertilizer probably caused this. In other words, you applied too much or possibly didn't follow the watering instructions once you applied it. Relax, it's a common mistake to make, since many people assume that if a little of something is good, a lot of it will be better. Scotts maintains a website, just Google it. They have answers to many common fertilizer associated issues. Approach this with them in a common-sense manner and don't be accusatory ("It's your company's fault that my grass burned" is not a good way to word things). Tell them what type of grass you have (that's important) and how you applied the fertilizer, and at what "rate" you had the drop or broadcast spreader set at when you applied it. They will offer suggestions as to how you can remedy what has happened.
