Question:

My left eye is seeing visual halos!?

Since last week I keep seeing a thin halo/rainbow around bright lights (i.e. street lamps, tv, car lights). I wear contacts outside and glasses at home and I'm near sighted (R 3.25 & L 3.75) with astigmatism (R 2.25 & L 2.75). Its really bugging me. I also see it when I take off my glasses/contacts. I'm 18 so I can't possibly have cataract or glaucoma yet!

Any ideas?

  1. I had some halos and the doc said it was dude to dry eyes.  Try some eye drops to lubricated, if it doesn't go away...see an eye doctor.  A lot of people see halos, so I doubt you are going to have an eye disease.  Good Luck!

  2. Cataracts are very unlikely at your age, but it has happened. There have been instances of babies born with them.

Since you definitely have one of the symptoms of cataracts, I strongly advise seeing an ophthalmologist as soon as possible.

Chances are it's something other than a cataract. But when it comes to your eyes, you can't be guessing.

  3. I also experienced this not long ago.  My cornea was scratched.  The halos were even there when I removed my left contact lens.  I immediately went to an optometrist because I was afraid of retinal detachment.  That will do irrepairable damage.  So I would suggest going to an eye doctor for a diagnosis!  It could just be a scratch, but please have it checked!
