My left thumb has been numb on the joint for two weeks ?

it started when i extended my arm and felt a shooting burning electrical shock feeling all the way down my arm to the tip of my thumb. whenever i extend my arm now the burning shock sensation comes back, any thoughts or diagnosis would be much appreciated, thanks
