Question:

My legs sink to the botton when i try to float, when i swim their position is kind of low in relation to body?

what can i do about it? how do i avoid sinking? my upper body floats it is just my legs drop down slowly as i try to float .

  1. Your legs sink because there's nothing in there to keep you floating. Your chest has air, which is why it floats.

    When you swim, stomach down, try to keep your back straight and your head flat. Look straight down to the bottom of the pool. If you don't, your spine will bend to accommodate your head position, and your legs will be forced down as a result. Same with if you arch your back while swimming.

    As far as floating goes, I've been competitively swimming for 10 years and still can't float without at least using a LITTLE bit of my arms or legs. But in general, try to take a big deep breath, and use your abs and core to force your legs up. This'll help use some of your buoyancy of your chest to help with your legs.


  2. when trying to float, be sure to use your abdominals to keep your legs up. One thing you can do to improve their strength is some ab exercises to better you buoyancy.
