My lemon tree has yellow leaves and the fruit is bitter. Please advise.?

Citrus likes water and fertilizer.  It would be deficient in one of the trace elements and this is common.  Get a good citrus fertilizer from the garden centre and use as directed.

If the soil in your area is acidic (masses of happy azaleas and rhododendrons are a good indicator), get some lime also and apply as directed.  Lime sweetens the fruit.  You may also have a very bitter variety of lemon.  if your climate is not too cold investigate a Meyer Lemon (not nearly as sour).
