Well I got a 5 year old leopard gecko a year ago, so it's 6 now. It was NEVER handled it's whole life. Whenever I put my hand it will sometimes crawl up my arm or it will get freaked out. I was wondering if I will ever be able to handle my leopard gecko.

  1. yes just keep holding it and it'll tame down.

  2. Your voice is the place to start.  Talk to the guy before you put your hand in the tank.  Get him cocking his head, and looking at you.  When you do enter his tank, do it slowly.

Tempt him to take insects from your fingers if you can.  Wax worms are like candy to humans, so go easy on them, but offering 1-3 a week as a hand fed treat won't hurt him a bit.  Just don't be tempted to give him more.  They can be addicting, and make it difficult to get him to eat other insects he needs.

Just be patient, and go slow.  He'll come around, most likely.

I have one male here who just does not like to be held, but he's one of the first to come running if I talk to him, or do anything in his tank.  He'll take insects from my hand, and let me pet him, but he just doesn't like to be held.

They all have individual personalities, but it sounds like your guy is more inclined to be friendly.  Just keep at it.

Enjoy your gecko, and I hope this has been helpful.

  3. Yeah! Just handle him daily, or even every other day.

He will eventually get used to it and maybe even look forward to being handles.

Let him do fun stuff when ever you take him out of his cage, too!

Like, crawl around on your bed and make "hills" with your comferter or something! My geckos seem to enjoy that =]

..I do realize that I sound totally lame.

    Just letting you know.

  4. Yes you will. You just have to be persistent until it gets used to you. It doesn't even sound too bad.
