my female leopard gecko is always clawing the walls standing up on her tail in the evening. does this mean that she doesn't like her habitat? she does it under the opening of the tank, is she trying to escape?

  1. try putting more fun things in your tank like a fake plant or something to climb.

  2. How long have you had her?  Mine did that when we first got him but he doesn't anymore - it was like he was testing the boundaries...  How old is she?  Give her something to climb on - a "hut" to hide in and that kind of thing.  They seem to get bored easily.

  3. i have this same problem with my beardie but i figured out it wasnt trying to climb the walls. what i noticed was that it could see its own reflection through the glass and thought it was a different lizard. i payed more attention and could see that it looked like it was trying to attack the glass because he was territorial. make sure your gecko cant see its reflection or try to wait till it realizes that its itself, cuz i think mine is starting to.

  4. leopard geckos like to climb. provide them with branches and lots of things they can climb on and she will then stop. good luck.

  5. she probably wants out. maybe change up her tank. move things around. get creative don't use store bought stuff,  make your own, check out..... beautifuldragons .com go to the part about furniture you will get lots of ideas, also get her a friend would you want to be lonely? my bearded dragon seemed so i rushed out bought another one, i think there both males but they don't fight. also I'm buying a sulcata baby to go with them, they have a huge set up, best of luck.   PS. i love those

  6. im not shure she could but geckos doe love to climb so if you see her climb she just doing it for fun.

  7. Leos can't actually climb the walls of the habitat, but it seems to me that she's obviously a climber, so maybe you should consider buying a climbing branch, or getting more things for her to explore, like fake vines and plants. If you do get something for her to climb on, make sure she can't escape from the top of her habitat, they are a h**l of a pain to catch!

  8. Well, yes. Animals always try to escape from their enclosures as it is not their natural environment. If you are concerned about her health or comfortability  you should research again and make sure she has the right humidity and temperture within her enclosure. Is there a male gecko in her enclosure? She might want to lay eggs. Do you have a hide box? They need a hide box at the right temperture. You should have a warm side and cool side in her enclosure. I personally have a hide box on the warm side and cool side. Is she pale white? She might be trying to shed and this begins rubbing on the edges to take skin off. Provide a rock for her to scratch with.
