An ad in the paper said that a local dealership was looking for energetic sales people (exp not req'd) to apply by email with ther skills, so here's mine.

Hello Lou,

My name is Ashley Sxxxxx, i'm an 18 year old customer service and sales representitive at my job. I'm aspiring to be a salesperson and i'm intruiged by and interested in both sales and cars. I own two Chevys myself and all my life i've been interested in cars.

I can service both my cars becasue of my mechanic dad and i've been looking for an opportunity to start honing my skills and gaining experience as a saleswoman. I've been doing customer service for 3 years now and at my current job we have sales opportunities in which I currently consistantly perform well at. I convince buyers to try getting the next size up in the product they are ordering, in turn gaining the company extra money.

Lately sales has really grabbed my attention and I find ive become very savvy when dealing with product descriptions and pros/cons

  1. Being 18 may hamper your ability to get a sales position right off the bat, but your enthusiasm should at least get you an interview.

If there is another position offered you should strongly consider it. Work the front desk, internet sales, service/parts cashier...anything to get you in the dealership so that you can see what happens on a day to day basis and make contacts.

Remember that is sales "perception is reality" and many car buyers may not percieve that you have the ability to help them buy the right vehicle based on your age.

Good luck, I have a friend that does very well selling at a local Infiniti dealership and she started as the internet sales department receptionist. She had to prove to her peers that she had the drive to overcome the perception that a young 20's woman could sell cars to people that had been driving longer than she had been alive. It took a lot of work on her part, but she proved it.

  2. Good job, i hope it works out for you.  It can be a very lucrative job for the right person.

  3. I would hire ya' i am sure you'd do better than half the stiffs i have worked alongside over the years!!!!  lol

  4. Most dealerships will hire almost any body that can walk , talk and breath to be a sales person and you will do great
