I was pulled over originally for not having insurance, when I got insurance I did not know it had to be SR-22, then when I was pulled over I was told my license was suspended because of not having SR-22. My license is cleared now, but I have court coming up which I have to fight a $500 fine for driving on a suspended license. Just trying to find out if there is a way to get out or reduce the fine without a lawyer?

  1. probably not,and expect to pay court costs on top of the fine.they may let you pay it off in installments, wouldnt be a bad idea to call the court clerks office and ask.

The judge is going to tell you"driving is a priveledge, not a right, and its your responsibility to know the requirements of this state"

  2. You may get a little break but it also sounds like you play the I didn't know card a lot to justify your repeat blunders. Time to take a look at what and why you had the problems in the first place and try to be a little more responsible in the future.

  3. The manner of which you explained your issue here sounds logical and reasonable.

Present yourself to the court in the same manner and I believe the judge could either reduce or dismiss the fines for you!

  4. Your fine for DWLS is not $500 - that is the no insurance fine.

ou license is not re enstated and the court will most likely not want to tack on more time - you may get the citation dismissed with compliance or they may reduce it to a petty offense and take you bond (sould have been $100).
