i'm 18,i've been homeschooled for 4 years(on the computer, homeschooling was my dad's idea)because i was playing tennis very competitively,i thought i would make it a lot farther but i didn't,i just said,enough....I finished 10 grades in school,so please don't be too hard on me for not going up to 12.And i'm not planning to go to college, because i am horrible at math,i only now basics, not the nerdy stuff. So, now i work as a tennis coach and i make around $1,300 a month, but the thing is,this job is not very consistent, sometimes the weather is bad(i teach outside cause' it's summer),or the clients are on vacation,or sometimes they just don't want to play.blah blah...I really don't like my job,i've been doing this for 10 years, how could i possibly like it?I hate it.So i want a different job,i want to be a nurse(some nursing school?),can i become one without going to college, finish a school? Our financial position is very bad right now that's why college is out of the question

  1. try a nursing school they are not very much. and you need to do what your heart tells you to do. not what your parents want. It sounds like you have a pretty good head on your shoulders. becides with all the money you make coaching you can go to some kind of school and you CAN learn math.

  2. Hmm... sounds quite bad but dont lose hope..

If U've been doing this job for 10 years then how could you possibly hate it? is it some reason or something thats making you think that you actually hate ur job? better reconsider ur thought about it..

why dont you try opening some guidance center on tennis coaching where you can help new talents to cope up with various sort of pressures and all as you say you were once playing very competetive tennis...?

You can actually charge some amounts of money for that and mental challenge is a very important aspect of every sport these days..

and abt nursing, if you really think that you wanna go for it then go ahead and do ur best..

    All the Very Best...

  3. You can not be a nurse without going to college--nursing school is a part of college.

What I would suggest you do is look up the requirements for getting into nursing, even talk to an admission's officer, then study up a bit and take the SATs. If you don't get the scores you want, study more, find more resources to help you understand better and get the scores you need to get into college. College is NOT out of the question--there is all kinds of financial aid out there. Most people do NOT pay for college out of their pockets!

Btw, there's no such thing as being horrible at math. You can be horrible at a certain level of math RIGHT NOW, but there's likely nothing stopping you from learning it except your own mindset. There are plenty of books and resources out there that help people learn what they didn't for math in school. What has usually happened is that somewhere, something went too quickly, understanding broke down and things fell apart after that. Surely you can add 6+6? You know how to multiply 6*6 even if you don't know your tables by heart? Just build up from where things start getting tough. You still have a lifetime ahead of you--taking the next year, if necessary, to get the skills down is more than worth it.

  4. There are soooo many college programs out there. take a few days and look around on the internet, visit a few, talk to a few people. they are usually more then willing to talk to you. school stinks but it is the best way to make more money and to get a good job that you will enjoy. you have to work for a long time still so make sure it is something you like. there are programs out there that range from a few months to a few years depending on what you decide to do. Moneywise there is always loans and there are even grants that you can get that you dont have to pay back. it is worth investing in an good education. the schools can help you out too and answere some questions about that

  5. If you went to a tech college to get your LPN, they would start with basic math and I'd bet you'd get it. You do have to know math to nurse, not like Calculus, but you have to be able to verify the doses per weight that the doctors are prescribing.

If your job is not stable now, it's a good time to apply for scholarships and do some initial testing to figure out where you would be. College is never out of the question, that's what scholarships are for, and if you live with your parents and make $1300 a month, surely you can afford a few hundred a month for tuition, even if you didnt get scholarships. Or are you supporting your dad too?

  6. no..you have to have some sort of medical degree as a nurse in college in order to become a nurse and work in a hospital..

  7. Im sure you could coach in a indoor gym or some camp or something.

  8. I applied for and qualified for FASFA. They were going to pay 100% of my tuition for a technical college to get my LPN. I started school and had to drop out b/c we ended up having to start over after Hurricane Katrina.

But to do that you may need to get your HS Diploma first. I don't know if they will take a GED but you can ask. I think that would depend on the policies of your states tech college.

    Good Luck!

  9. Most nurses do need at least a 2 year college degree, however I believe you can be a nurse's aide with much less college.  This might be the way to go to get some experience and see if this is something you enjoy before investing years and tuition money to find out you don't like it.

    Good luck.

  10. GED, LVN

  11. i understand you. i wud say hang on to tennis for a while u did say it was part time so in your spare time when your clients r on vacation or something go to school part time, you dont actually have 2 go sit in a class try it online in the comfort of your house.

excuse me if i am being rude but u need to be a little tougher with your clients. sounds to me as if whenever they call you go NO STOP THAT!!!!! you could have nothing important to do on that day when they call but make it sound as if you r booked and have to sqeeze them in. they might start to take you seriously. hope i helped

  12. well you could take courses..but i mean u dont really need to be good at math i dont think to be a nurse. they just have to train u so u know certain things. go into a hospital and ask :} i work as a volunteer (im behind two credits in school) so i file stuff in the back and the nurses are really nice i mean all they do is file papers at their desk and escort patients. u should try a doctor that works independently..like they have their own office and all that. thats where i work..with Dr. Strack..in her office. Just go for it and don't look back. Good luck.

  13. Don't be so HARD on yourself!!! I'm 37 years old and I'm married with two kids (7 an 16 years old) and I 'm going back to school for nursing. I also have problems with math.  But they do have tutors and study groups in school. I think that you should go to an actual campus, not online. You can get financial aid, help with finding a job while you go to school and you will have the support of other classmates who are trying for the same goal. You can do it, just have faith in your self!!!

  14. no u have to go to college to have a good life!go to an online college!
