  1. Don't knock it till you try it.  I haven't been to Boston, but I know homeschooling does not equal the end of your life.

  2. i am a homeschooler myself and i don't think your life will be over. You can still be involved in the public school by doing sports and stuff!!!

  3. Enjoy the move... friends in your teens will always come and go and there are times you have to move away.  That's when you cherish your old friends and also find new friends in the area.  Just cuz you move doesn't mean you can't ever talk to your old friends.  I wouldn't be surprised if once you're in Boston you LOVE it more than Cali cuz Cali is WAYYY over populated.  Plus what you think happens when you go to college?  Enjoy the move and stay safe :-)

  4. It's a big transition, but your life is not over - promise!  Check my answer to your other question.

  5. No, your life is not over... and don't be so dramatic. (smile)

Homeschool is not the worst thing that could happen to you.  Boston is not the end of the world.

Open your mind and think outside the box of California being the only place in the world and that public school is the only school.

Be open minded.  Be ready for adventure.

  6. I think you will be ok but ti kind of does suck because being home schooled you will nto get the school pep rallies or school spirt feeling. Thats a major part about being in school because you create memories.

  7. Hey! Don't panic! It really will be OK!  :o)

Homeschooling will be a lot of fun, but you have to give yourself some time to adjust.  Please read my answer to your other question on how to get through the transition period -- it will also work for getting through relocation.

Think of this move and decision to homeschool as an adventure, not the end of the world... It is a new way of living and by homeschooling, you will now have more time to explore your new home, take in the sights...  At least by being in Boston you are likely to find a group of homeschool teens that you can hang with; you will have a lot more opportunities in a city location than my kids will get in our rural location.

Please, to keep yourself from panicking, take the time to locate some online resources for homeschoolers (http://brightkidsathome.com is a good start) and pay a visit to your library to find some books about homeschooling, especially books like the "Teenage Liberation Handbook" by Grace Llewellyn.

Good luck and please keep in touch!

  8. Boston is an awesome town! Homeschooling can be a grand adventure. Your life isn't over, it is just going to be different. Keep up with old friends via Facebook, snail mail or Myspace. Make new friends by getting out and seeing the sites, attending the games and shopping the stores. Boston is rich with history. Just because it is called "Home" school does not mean you have to sit home.

  9. Why does homeschooling mean your life is over??? Take it from my son, who is now 13, he thought homeschooling was going to be the worst thing in the world and guess what...it was. Then once he realized that it's what you make of it then he started enjoying being done with school in 2 hours and having the rest of the day to "play." It's all in what you make it!

    Good luck...you will be fine.

  10. Your life is not over as you like to call it(drama)!

Your (social) life is only limited if you choose it to be.

Where, and how you receive your education is up to your parents as long as you are a minor they decide how to educated, and direct your upbringing; they will use their good judgment in doing so.

What will you do? "deal with it, and do your best not to "annoy" them.

As for your social life, and if other people will want to spend time with you, so they have a chance to get to know you will depend completely on your own attitude.

Good luck, Boston is a great city with much to do, and explore.

  11. Given the number of people who live in Boston--that is, their lives aren't over--I'm sure you'll be just fine.

I can, however, understand your sadness and your fear. Don't let them get the better of you. Be strong and make your life there great.

    ADDED:

Btw, you can start right now to connect with people in Boston. Check out (and have your mom check out) http://www.mhla.org/support/masupportgro... . Just scroll down--there are 4 different groups listed there, one specifically for teens. Also check out (and have your mom check out) http://groups.yahoo.com/search?query=bos...

  12. just relax, boston is a cool place to be, you'll expieirnce plenty such as: john hancock building, malls, tours

  13. It's not as bad as you think it is...for instance when you do move, join a homeschool group...homeschooling will only take about 2-4 hours (depends on your state)...After 2-4 hours you will have the rest of the day to hang out with friends...this is where the homeschooling group will be good because you will know other homeschoolers with your same schedule...you'll have more time for friends, hangouts, trips to the mall, etc.  Trust me, it's not the end of the world.
