The second week we got her (Leyla) started coughing really bad. We took her to the vet and he gave us this medicine that had to given to her every 12 hours. She is done with that and it didn’t do much to her. Leyla got my 10 month Yorkie sick too. Now she is very weak, he has trouble walking (she goes to the side) and he head shakes. I don’t think she is strong enough. I took her to the vet again! They said no worms. But they gave me this medicine for pre worms (the prevent them). And vitamins and I been giving her a lil bit of day quil so that horrible coughing can go away. My bf heard about this sickness that small dogs usually get. Can think of the name. That there always tired and don’t have any strength, since there to hyper, don’t eat enough, sleep enough, or being carried all the time. She eats and sleeps a lot! Its crazy because she is always eating and she is still tinny!!! Since we bought her she has been a quiet puppy, sleeps a lot unlike my other yorkie you never see him calm. Always running around like a crazy butt lol. What’s wrong with my lil 3 month yorkie.

  1. It sounds like with your puppy falling over and shaking its head.... it could be having some sort of seizures, or it possibly could be having low blood sugar.  One of my Yorkies was acting very listless when it was young too, which was the blood sugar thing, and I just had to make sure she was fed like every few hours to keep that normal.  She did grow out of that and is perfectly find and healthy now.

    Thanks for reading!

  2. it sounds like the puppy has low blood sugar.. give her some syrup/sugar water IMMEDIATELY! I would keep some Nutrical on hand at all times.. its just a high calorie supplement that will help with hypoglycemia ((low blood sugar)).. I would also suggest finding a new vet, and changing food.. the puppy chow isnt that great of a food.. I think Eukanuba is a great food, along with Nutro.. Find a food that is made with less fillers..

remember she is still a puppy.. so she is going to sleep alot.. also keep the food down 24/7 so she eats enough.. yorkies along with other dogs, eat only a few bites at a time.. then will play then go back to eat.. as with the coughing, i would go ahead and vaccinate agaisnt bordetella ((kennel cough)), along with parvo/distemper..

good luck with your darling puppy!

  3. It sounds as though you need to get BOTH of your dogs to another vet.  DO NOT give the dogs any medications (ie DayQuil) without the advice of a veterinarian -- DayQuil contains Acetomenaphin, which is TOXIC to dogs!

  4. Weak, trouble walking, and spinning head sound horribly like distemper?!? If she starts fly-snapping (snapping like she's going after flies) I'd be horribly disturbed. Are her temples sunken?  Did you get her from a pet store?! or a puppy mill?  Coughing sounds like bordetella (also known as kennel cough).  Any discharge from her eyes or nose?  If your other dog hasn't been vaccinated for it, it is contagious. Dayquil could be making her nappy.  Personally, I'd try another vet-go for a second opinion-the one you've been taking her to doesn't strike me as being very good.

Puppy chow is c**p-don't switch her food now while she's sick, but when she gets better, switch her to a high quality food, like Nutro.  DO THIS VERY SLOWLY! or she'll get an upset tummy.

Also, get some Pedialyte or Gatorade (pedialyte preferably) for her, to keep her hydrated.  Gently pinch a bit of skin-if it tents (remains in the tented position, or goes back down very slowly), she's dehydrated.

But if I were you, I'd go for a second opinion. Trouble walking does NOT indicate worms.

Best luck, and prayers for your furball!

  5. I am going to suggest going to a different Vet ASAP! She could have any number of things wrong from Parvo to canine influenza but pre-worm and vitamins are going to do anything for either of those. Take both dogs and explain all the problems she has been having.

Purina puppy chow is a very bad food choice but it is not going to cause all her problems. I like Wellness products but there are many good foods available. (NOT at the supermarket)
