  1. Yes, it is normal. rats are nocturnal

  2. I'd like to stress that she will need another girly friend to keep her happy and healthy. Rats are extremely social and can get depressed when living alone.

Little ratlets do love to sleep, yes, and once she spends more time with you she'll adjust her schedule to match yours so that you'll both be up and ready to play at the same time. :)

  3. yes it is normal! she is proably up all night. rats are nocturnal... over time she may adapt to your schedule but mostly they just are sleepy during the day. you should consider getting an other little girl  so when you are away they can play tigether and it is so fun to watch them play. and they will love you just the same, but rats are very social and should live in pairs:)

  4. she could be sick or be be depressed. nothing just sleeps alottt. it could be as little as her being depressed just like how humans sleep alot when they're depressed or sick. if she has no signs of being sick, please get it a friend. they're easy to introduce. and when a rat isn't living wth another rat, it will actually shorten it's life spand. because they will get so depressed. it's fine to introduce it to another rat. just if you do it, do it slow. put them somewhere where neither of them have ever been, let them be there for about 20 minutes. watch over them the whole time. alittle rough housing is alrite as long as neiter squeaks or looks like one's getting hurt. if ones getting hurt take it away for a few hours or a day then try again. if one squeaks while they're together and isn't even being hurt just means it's cranky, so seperate them for a few hours then try again. do that 3 times a day, a few hours apart. make sure to watch the whole time. after 3-5 days of getting along, without hurting eacother, completly clean the cage, with NO soap, just water and a rag. clean the food and water dish/bottle and clean any toys if they can be cleaned. then put in fresh food, water, and fresh bedding. put them both in the cage at the same time, and watch them for about an hour. again, rough housing is fine. just as long as one's not getting hurt. and just watch over them fo a few days, and if nothing happens your good.

atleast try it, for the rat.

  5. rats are nocturnal but will adapt to you bedtime and sleep when you sleep and wake when yu wake, your ratty is probrably just to young she will get used to you schedule... =)

  6. Rats dont sleep all the time even as babies. I have been raising them for 6 years now and have had numerous litters. This could be signs of her being sick. Rats being lowest on the food chain will mask there illness as long as possible as not to seem weak. So when they do start showing symtoms alot of times its hard to get them healthy again. Does she have popherin staining around either her nose or eyes or both. Can you hear any rattling in her chest when you pick her up. Is she eating and drinking ok and is her fur smooth or ruffled. Rats get sick pretty easy and even when you get them just the ride home can stress them out enough for them to get a respitory infection. I would say take her to the vet better safe than sorry.
