i got my lip pierced on august 1st with a stud. and after about a week all the swelling had gone down and things were looking good. then, the piercing started growing out. not swelling, but just the diameter of the hole. and now I'm afraid its healing that way. many people have told me to get a ring with a smaller post , but i'm iffy with decision because its only been three weeks, and i'm also afraid the piercing will grow over a smaller ring. i cant go to the piercer because i got it done in NY and io live in PA and i'm also completely broke, so i cant go to a doctor.somebody, please tell me what to do. is taking it out my only choice?

  1. Your 'Growing' is scar tissue this hapens when you cut yourself. If you where to remove it now then you have no real risk of permerant damage. When you had it done they should have warned you of the risks. Good luck

  2. If you can spin the piercing to keep it loose that way the skin wont grow over the ring and don't take the stud out.

  3. I'm not entirely sure what you mean by "growing out." Do you mean the skin is growing over the piercing? Or do you mean your body is pushing the piercing out? Is the post too long?

Your best bet is to find a piercer in your area (even though it's not your usual piercer) and have them look at it. I honestly don't know what you're talking about, so I can't give any good advice. However, I will try. It sounds like the post might be too long from your description. Most people have to change their jewelry after a few weeks of having their lip pierced. Piercers intentionally pierce with longer jewelry to accommodate for swelling. I remember when I had my lip pierced and the swelling had gone down, the post was so long I kept biting it. So I had to change my jewelry. That was about 3 to 4 weeks after I had gotten it pierced. You can easily order new jewelry online for about $10-15 depending on the type of material. Tribalectic.com has always been good to me. The jewelry comes sterilized, so you don't have to worry about that. If you do change it, make sure you do it super fast so that the hole doesn't close up. Or have a piercer change it for you. It shouldn't cost too much or anything at all. My piercer does it for free.

I hope I helped a little bit. Good luck!

  4. While you cannot go to *the* piercer, you can go to *a* piercer...which is what you should. None of us can see what is actually happening to your lip and most of us aren't piercers and can't say for sure what it is. Even with a picture (if one had been provided) it's always possible to misdiagnose over the internet. Your best bet is to go see a piercer. No piercer should charge you simply to look at your piercing.
