  1. Letters, colors, numbers would all help.  Some don't even know those.

  2. For kindergarten he needs to know- (I'd start on these now)

    full name

    parents names

    address

phone number (make it a song)

    shapes

    colors

    ABC's

    Numbers to 100

    Writing letters and numbers

    Recognizing letters and numbers

    rhyming words

    how to draw shapes

    Recognizing values of money

  3. A good preschool program will take a child from where he is at and also provide a guideline for what you or your parents can do at home to help reinforce the concepts that are being taught in preschool.

Preschool's main benefit is social but the following are some literacy/mathematics concepts they should be working on.

Literacy: rhyming, letter sounds, letter recogntion, syllables, writing name, concepts of print (understanding how books "work"), comprehension, introducing different types of print, fine motor skills, and one of their main goals should be helping a child "love" and motivate reading, writing, and listening, etc

Mathematics: shapes, colors, copy/create/extend patterns, numeral recognition, numeral order, counting with meaning, 1:1 correspondence, beginning addition/subtraction (informal...manipulatives...NOT WORKSHEETS), etc

  4. the alphabet... basic words... shapes colours all the basics really would put him ahead

  5. He needs to know that school is a good place to be. He will  have friends at school and teachers who will help him to learn. He needs to know that he is loved and that you will be there at the end of the day. Let him know that he has good thoughts and you have faith that he will be a good student. Children who are socially and emotionally secure will learn whatever it is the teachers offer to him.

  6. He doesn't *have* to know anything, however, I would go ahead and start on the basics such as colors, shapes, singing ABC's, counting to ten.  If he has that down, I'd start on letter and number recognition and sounds letters make as well as writing.

  7. Well, is that his first time going to school? Has he ever been to one? What does he know so far??

  8. his name.
