He's 7.

He does very odd things in his sleep....

He always does this thing where he moves his hand like I suppose in the way you'd do if you were knocking on a door, but for longer and sometimes faster.

Once he actually sleepwalked from his bed to the living room, grabbed a pillow from the couch, walked to my room, opened the door, threw down the pillow, stood for a minute, and then turned around and walked right back to his bed.

(I moved out and he's visiting me, sleeping on the floor) Just now, he got up and stood there for a minute, dead asleep, grabbed the fan (the tall standing ones), moved it over a foot, and laid back down all awkward on the other side of the floor.

This kind of thing isn't very uncommon.

Last week, he sat up awake at like 3 am and was totally shivering so I thought he was cold, but it was almost hot, so I was confused. I was trying to talk to him and ask him why he's up and if he wants me to turn off the fan, but he wasn't answering and just staring off into nothing - after a minute I sat down next to him and he jumped in my lap and said he was scared and started screaming and crying.

I'm really scared things are gonna get worse and he's gonna develop terrible night terrors (I saw an episode of Oprah on night terrors) or something like that.

What can be done about it, and should I be worried?

Anything else you can tell me?

  1. that sounds pretty serious... have you considered that he may be schizophrenic?

  2. I would take him to the doctor and have him/her  recommend something. For the time up until the appointment, just try and make sure that he is safe while he is doing things in his sleep.
