any ideas what I can do to make the next 3 days better.

I have come down South for a few days to see my family, I brought along little smokey, brought some of his favourite toys, his food, everything he needs, I have put it all out at my house down south, its the first time he has been away from his home in London, and he has not poo'd since yesterday morning before we left, he is not eating or drinking, has only wee'd once, keeps hiding, when im sitting down and he wont leave my side if I move. I understand that his routine has upset him, but is there anything you can suggest I do. I have even put my hubby on the speaker phone to do his stupid little noises to him to try and cheer him up. First time cat owner, so any advice appreciated.

  1. I will sort her out. woof woof

  2. Give him anything you have that smells like home..a blanket or a shirt...something familiar..animals get stressed in unfamiliar places ..he should be fine in another day or 2..get him some kitty treats..they usually won't refuse no matter where they are:)

  3. Hi please contact a Vet for advise cats are not like dogs they do not take well to moving

  4. Just keep reassuring him and cuddling when you can, once he's back home he will probably sulk with you for a couple of days but all will be well.  Remember he is not in his territory and everything will smell and look different.

  5. Some cats walk into a new place, curl up in a favourite chair and never look back. Others take time to adjust to their surroundings but you can help them to settle in.

Cats will rub their heads and bodies on furniture, walls, doors etc to lay down scent from glands which are situated mostly on the head but also over the body. Rubbing their own scent around the house increases their feeling of security. You can help this process by rubbing a soft cotton cloth gently around the cat's face to pick up its personal scent profile. Then dab this, at cat height, around the room(s) where he will initially be exploring. You can repeat this daily and widen the areas where you impose his scent, so before he ventures outside he should feel confident within the place.

Use food and a regular routine to help during the adjustment period. Small frequent meals will give you more contact initially and help to reassure your cat that all is well. He will relax because he will know what is going to happen and when.

An indoor cat may find settling into a new place more difficult than one which spends time outside, because he will be less used to environmental changes. Such a cat should be introduced to a new place slowly - one room at a time and with plenty of reassurance.

  6. It takes them a while to get acclimated.

    Each cat will react differently.

Try getting it some different cat food and something new. Sometimes the things from home keep them home sick instead of making them feel better.

Don't worry too much, they come around after a little while. Just love on it a lot and let it have it's space. Don't push it to do what it don't seem to be ready to do.

  7. Hes just not used to the enviroment. dont worry he'll settle in, just give him your comfort and love.

  8. Cats HATE change.  Your family's home is full of sights and scents unfamiliar to Smokey.  As soon as you return to London, Smokey will return to his old ways.
