Question:

My little observation of the day...?

I'm sitting at a stoplight when I see a marked police vehicle in the oncoming lane. He turns on his police lights while he crosses the intersection, and once he is across, he turns them off. "He must be going to a minor call," I thought. However, just because i'm bored and this particular stoplight requires a rather long wait for a green arrow again, I continue to watch him. I see him pull into the shopping center and get into the McDonald's drive-thru lane.

Somebody, please...tell me it's just cops from around here...

Next time I see it happen, i'll be tempted to follow and jot down his car number to complain to the department. Although we all know that emergency vehicles have right of way when lights and/or siren are activated, he is still putting himself and other drivers at risk by running the light.

Response to a 911 call is certainly understandable...his anxiety for a Big Mac and fries...not so much.

  1. I love there posts.  While I'm sure there are some officers out there abusing their authority - believe me - they never make it that long.

But I do find it very interesting that I have grown up in the Chicago land metropolitan area and have lived here for 44 years and I have never seen a policeman or police car do this.

Now, being a policeman my self - of 24 years - I do also know that there have been a few guys that do not use common sense - again they never seem to make it the profession long - but I have a hard time understanding this fact.

While I am sure your telling the truth - or at least  hope you are - your attacking my passion at it's core - I find it hard to believe that a police officer would order any food from a drive through window and here is why.

Policeman know that many people that they have or their brothers/sisters have arrested work at these types of jobs.  I have never eaten at a place where I have not been able to witness the person preparing my food while on duty.  Do you read the hate posts here?  Now I do have difficulty with your story - again I know some guys in my line of work are not of the typical 99% straight up and honest type of mode - would order food from a fast food drive through window - and the potential of the other person in the establishment.

  2. I live in New Jersey and I have had one speed up behind me, turn on their lights so I go to pull over and they just pass me, turn off their lights and go at a moderate speed ahead of me.  I didn't get that.  Its like he thought I wasn't driving fast enough for him but then he really didn't seem like he was in a hurry to go anywhere.  That McDonald's thing is awful, maybe he is a diabetic??
