My little sister just got engaged and needs wedding ideas!?

They want to get married outside, like on a beach or at a winery... somewhere on the East Coast where our family is located... Anywhere from SC, NC, VA and MD

Also, her favorite flower is gerber daisies and she wants that to be in her bouquet... what other flowers go well with them?

She has no idea what colors she wants... she's a big pink fan, but thinks its too common nowadays... what about 2 colors?

And lastly, she has 7 college roommates that she couldn't choose just some for bridesmaids and is worried her fiance won't have enough groomsmen to compensate... what should she do?

THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR YOU HELP!

  1. She should definitely start visiting the message boards on The Knot.  She will get TONS of ideas on there.  Tell her to check out the local SC, NC, VA or MD board and just jump right in and ask questions!  This website was so helpful during my wedding planning.

  2. I, too, am only going to address ONE part of this one.  I am not much of a wedding planner, but the choosing who is in your wedding party question I can offer some help with.

When I got married I had a really tough time choosing.  Then my grandmother made it very clear to me that there were other special places to have these cherished friends.  Theres a gift table, a cake table, the guest book....and you can have even one special attendent that isn't per say IN the wedding but is there to make you feel relaxed.  That special TRUSTWORTHY friend is there to reassure the bride she won't have any headaches to mastermind on her special day!

  3. It's not the end of the world for there to be more bridesmaids than groomsmen.  That said, 20 years from now, it'll be fun for her to try and remember the names of those 7 women.

  4. I can't help you with the location since I don't live on the east coast.

For flowers, hydrangea goes really nicely with everything, including daisies.

I'm having a burgundy and pink wedding, with red and magenta accents, so I was able to incorporate pink and still be unique. The bridesmaids are each in a slightly different color so it looks like a burgundy to pink gradient when they are standing side by side.

There's nothing wrong with having an uneven number of attendants. If she wants 7 bridesmaids she should do it, but also keep in mind that it can be very expensive. I'm spending $250 on each of my bridemaids' hair, makeup, gifts and bouquets.

Her future husband shouldn't feel like he needs to have 7 groomsmen, and only ask the the guys he really wants there standing up on his wedding day. No one said it has to be perfectly symmetrical. You can have one groomsman walk two bridesmaids, one on each side.

    Good luck & happy planning!

  5. outside weddings are nice! make sure if they are getting married outside, that the dress is appropriate. sand + a ball gown = big troubles!! also, i'm having red gerber daisies in my wedding in my bouquet, with no other flowers.. its gorgeous. have the florist add some accent jewels or sometihng if she feels thats not enough.

the time of year for the wedding plays a big part in the colors.. so it would depend on that. fall weddings look good with browns and darker yellows and oranges.. summer weddings = bright colors. winter weddings look good with dark reds and dark blues and spring time looks good with baby blues and pinks. and other soft colors.

as for the bridesmaids. i have 4 good girlfriends, and my fiance has 2 really good best friends. i chose to only have 2 girls, and its the two i feel the most comfortable with and have known the longest, and i told the other two i would like to include them but didnt want to make him feel awkward. they totally understood. if all else fails, th groom could use the brides male cousins, or brothers.

    good luck! :-)

  6. It sounds like she has quite a bit of planning ahead of her... no worries...there's time.

She'll need to pick which colors she likes. (we used navy with pink accents) Decide location (or at least narrow it down to one state!) She might have to pick between roommates and have some of the women do readings or something else for the wedding.

As for flowers, that's the easy part.  I, too, lover gerber daisies!  I had them in my bouquet.  I used them with roses, lisianthus, stephanotis, mini tulips, stock, and for filler wax flowers and a tiny bit of ivy.  I don't like trailing bouquets so it was a very full compact bouquet.

I had gerbers in our centerpieces and in the girls flowers as well.  All the flowers mimicked my bouquet.  It was lovely.
