My liver enzymes are elevated, what does this mean?

I went to the doc for a check up and they took some blood. I got the results back and it said my liver enzymes were elevated and it requires attention. I have my follow up in less than a week, but I'm wondering what this means. What causes liver enzymes to be elevated, what happens when liver enzymes are elevated, and is there a way to fix it? Any info or resources would be greatly appreciated!
