Question:

My local club is having a snooker table recovered?

The balls jump as they bounce off the cushion. I think this is due to it being too high in relation to the balls. Can the cushion height be altered? Also what is the correct temperature to iron the table?

The guy who does it leaves tram lines - i think the iron's too hot.

Can you suggest a way of tactfully telling him?

What grade of cloth should we have. What are the pros and cons of each.

  1. after recover should be alright

  2. Well the iron tells me your in the UK so I may not help but a jumping ball is the relation between the cushion and ball-unless just shot to hard or with a high stick i dont think that would be the case  I know it sounds funny but are the rails on upside down -?it can be done and will result in a low rail causing the balls to jump

As for cloth I would think Simmonis cloth would solve all your problems unless you just want to use the heavy nap that requires ironing-Im no Snooker expert by any means I very seldom play it But the info i gave should hold true for any cue sport table Food for thought anyway good luck

                                   Thanks Johnny

  3. if the height of the cushion is too much and the ball hit firmly it tends to bounce according to particular law of physics

to reduce the bouncing of the ball height of the cushion should be reduced so as to match that of the balls used

As for cloth I would think Simmonis cloth would solve all your problems .you could iron it with a temperature of close 100c

  4. get a new one the cheap twats

  5. Actually the cushion rests directly on the marble slate which most pool tables are made of. If the cue ball jumps it is because you are hitting it too low.
