Question:

My local post office keeps opening my media mail?

I live in a small town...the post office knows I receive a lot of scrapbooking items. Therefore every media mail package I receive is opened by a postal worker (in my town) and I am charged additional postage for priority rate; since they say scrapbooking items are ineligible for media mail...most of the time I didn't know the person was going to send them media mail. I have been told that only postal inspectors can open media mail en route. Is there anyone I can turn my post office into and should I do it?

  1. There should be a postmaster general that you can complain to. The post office has to give you his or her contact information.

  2. Sorry but they are allowed to open media mail b/c of all the fraud going on.

  3. call police.

its a federal offense. if u didn't know that :)

  4. Media mail will so be ended because of all the violations. Why do you assume an inspector is not opening your packages...it has to go thru a number of larger offices before it gets to yours

  5. a postal worker opening media mail is perfectly legal, you agree to it when you get the reduced rate

media mail is for newspapers, magazines, cds, dvds, ect  pretty strict rules

media means just that, not blank paper or scrapbooking supplies, thats not media

  6. Yes, you should turn them in, opening a letter not addressed to you is a federal offense, the next time you get a piece of mail that's open, take it straight down to the police station and file a report.

  7. Opening someone's mail is against the law. Report them to the PostMaster in your town.  Keep a documented ledger and evidence of each time this has happened. Sounds like a court case to me.
