Question:

My lovebird appears to be masturbating on a fluffy hammock in her cage. Should I discourage this?

I did have two lovebirds, unfortunately the male died a few months ago. They are about 10 years old and therefore I was unsure whether to get another for her. I decided not to. However she has also in the last two weeks laid two eggs which was a surprise to me as it has been a while she has been on her own. I was wondering if I should remove the hammock as this seems to be encouraging her to nest, and the above issue too! Can anyone help me?

  1. My mother breeds lovebirds , i would advise to get your bird another mate asap as lovebirds are not happy without a partner ...

  2. let your lovebird relieve itself with whatever helps it cope. Animals shouldn't be restricted if they aren't interfering with you.

  3. Give up---there is no way that you are going to stop this.  By the way, I raise Lovies and they  will do this even if they do have a mate.

  4. No just leave her alone and enjoy watching her being silly. At least she is happy enough to act goofy ya know? Sounds like she is having fun LOL!

I think if you can make sure you get a male, to house them beside each other for at least 2 months before allowing them to be in the same cage together. Moving another bird in on her will tick her off to the point that she could kill it if she feels invaded right now.

  5. If you don't want her to do it on the fluffy hammock, why don't you get her a little d***o instead?

  6. lovebirds love to nest, it's a natural thing for them...get her another bird.  my lovebird lost his mate and I put him in with a quaker, they are best buddies now.

I think it's great how I take the time to answer and ignorant people like you put a thumbs down...I have had lovebirds for about 20 years.  I used to raise them. They love to nest. Period!
