we didn't notice the blood til 5 hours later, and it wasn't dripping just a discoloration on her feathers, i looked closer and the skin was cut (one layer) i took her to the vet, they cleaned it and gave her an antibiotic shot and said for me to get a 4-5 day supply of oral anti-biotic tomoro at the vet cuz they didn't have any. They said it should heal and she should be fine because it wasn't really deep and i got to the vet fast. But I am really worried and just wondering if anyone else has had the same situation?! i just got her 3 days ago and i'd hate for her to die =(

  1. if the vet said she would be ok then she should be

  2. My brother used to have doves when we were younger. One day my cat got hold of one of them and did a pretty good job on it. My mom cleaned it up and nursed it back to health. It only took a week or so and the bird was good as new. I wouldn't be too worried, I'm sure she'll be fine. Just remember to keep that cage latched! And don't be too hard on Kitty, that is quite a temptation.

    Good luck!

  3. She should be just fine the antibiotic should keep any of the bacteria from the cat at bay...since its not deep and she didn't go into shock(usually the main cause of death with cat bites). I have a green cheeked conure that was bit by a cat when she was 2..she lived through it after the same ordeal, now she is 8 years old..but now has a deep hatred for cats...she will chase them down and bite them. just watch her...if she starts sitting at the bottom of the cage or wheezing or seems puffy and listless take her back to the vet. hope this helps good luck

  4. Trust me. If it's what it sounds like then It'll be just fine. Birds aren't as fragile as the seem.

  5. My very first parakeet got attacked by a cat.  It seemed ok, but when my mom took it to the vet, they gave it a shot and it died that night.  I don't know if it was from shock, or what?  I hope your bird does better :)

  6. I have a small parrot and she is tough. She has had bleeding from broken or blood feathers, lots of blood and she survived.

I wouldn't let the cat near my little lovebird as even cat scratches can be poison.  It is cat nature for them to go after a bird and kill it. I lost 1 bird that way and so did my son. My dad and son both trusted that the cat wouldn't harm the bird but in just a split second they had it in their mouths and made that deathly bite. I believe the vet knows best and just give the lovebird TLC and its food and water and antibiotic and keep the cage extra clean while it heals.
