  1. This link has good information about bird leg bands.

  2. 92 mean 1992 it mean's whan it was born so you will alway's know

  3. The 92 means your bird was born in 1992, the other things seen on the ring are the state the bird was born in and possibly the initials of the breeder.

  4. It's put on by the breeder - some sort of registration number, similar to the numbers assigned by the American Kennel Club.

Check your classifed ads, find a breeder and ask them if you want to know what each individual number means. You might contact the place where you got it and see if they know.

  5. I Think Its to identify Them, sorry im not much help!

  6. It's a legband. Most (but not ALL) domestically bred and raised birds will have them. Breeders use them for record keeping -- there is NO law that says a bird MUST have one, so you can have it removed by a vet if it ever starts causing problems.

The numbers are usually meaningless to the average person. The letters usually indicate the breeder the bird came from and the year it was hatched. The "92" may or may NOT be the year it was hatched. there will also be a two-letter state designation, telling you what state the breeder is in.

For instance, one of my caiques has a legband that has "SPA" -- which means she came from "Shady Pines Aviary". There are the letters "FL" -- which means she came from Florida (Shady Pines is in West Palm Beach). There is a two-digit number "04" because she was hatched in "04". There are other numbers that are merely record numbers for the breeder's purposes.

  7. it means he was domestically bred

  8. Actually, birds should all have a ring like that, it (if I remember well) serves to identify them, for the veterinary or if the little creature decides that outside is attiring... Nothing alarming in that.

  9. This just identifies the bird. it would be best to get your vet to remove this band because is can get caught on a toy in the cage and harm your bird. But it serves good purposes if your bird gets lost outside because if someone finds your bird they can identify it and return it to you.

  10. the ring helps the vet to identify them and almost every bird in the petshop shoud have one, I have 4 parakeets and they each have rings with different numbers on them
