I have heard that this is normal, but I'm just worried that he will get mad if I clean the throw up off or remove the toy. The only thing that I am worried about is that he's eating big chunks of the throw up, and I don't know if the bird eating the throw up is normal. If anyone can tell me about this that would be great!

  1. This may be a normal lovebird behavior, however, it demonstrates that your bird is sexually frustrated. The vomiting is a form of sexual foreplay. Completely normal, although it probably does not "turn you on."

If it is a female, then she will begin laying eggs. Chronic egg-laying dramatically shortens a bird's life.

If the bird is a male, then this behavior will cause him to take out his frustration on you, his "mate." This frustration will be demonstrated with hostile behaviors towards you. (biting)

You do not need to get another bird. It's a myth that lovebirds must be kept in pairs. A pair of lovebirds will bond with each other and will not be affectionate with you. You want your bird to think of you as its "mate" so that you can handle it and enjoy it as a pet.

The bottom line is that you need to remove the bird's "s*x toys" from the cage. Once the stimulus is gone, the bird will resume normal behaviors.

A bird's life consists of 3 things: foraging for food, preening and socializing. The bird should spend about 1/3 of its awake time socializing with you.

  2. it is regurgitation, so it is just it's food.  He loves his toy very much.  this is not harmful at all.  I have a couple lovies that humps their toy....and one is a girl LOL

  3. That is perfectly normal for you Love bird to be humping a toy. All he wants is a mate. I have two one male and one female and they regurgitate their food into each other. occasionally there is spillage...They love each other their anyways kissing and when its cold they huddle up to each other. Its adorable.

Any way all he is wanting is a mate. He might be a little confused about the toy not responding to his couture(i.e the humping and the regurgitating) and he might get lonely.

Therefore I would get him a mate  so he can have a some bird contact rather than human contact. It could be good for him.

    Try it. Good luck

  4. Birds throw up for their babies to eat or their mates if they love them, mine throws up on me once and a while,   yeah ewwww. Its ok it wont hurt him to re-eat it.

  5. Your bird wants a mate. that is why it is making   love to  its toy. I have seen this many times but never the throwing up and eating it. Birds eat food and throw it up into their babies mouth when they feed them so I don't see how eating it could hurt him.  I just don't know about the throwing up itself. Maybe he is just really ready to be a daddy and practicing baby feeding..lol. But I would keep a close eye on him and make sure he doesn't start acting sick. If he does call your Vet  ASAP. Good luck and God bless you
