Is it normal that my lovebird just goes crazy in the bottom of his cage? We try to just take him and he jumps on us and bites us, he bited us to the blood! Maybe it's because of reproduction season? I really don't know but hes going crazy... I'm scared he has an illness or is he just scared?

And why does his feathers become all fat and he does this weird sound? We really don't know what to do...

Help please!

  1. - If you got it from a pet store, then it probably wasn't raised properly, or even if you got it from an unreputable breeder then this might be the case -- you can correct this with time and patience.

    - If the cage is located in a busy area of the house, move it to quiet, bright place. Also change the bird's toys and give it more fruits and veggies. And spend more time playing with your bird (you've got to tolerate some bites for that) -- at least 30 to 60 minutes every day.

    - Lovebirds in particular can be hormonal to other pets in the house. Keep them away from each other. Lovebirds can also get hormonal during 'adolescence' (4-6 months of age) or during breeding season. Treat your bird normally and this stage will soon be over.

    - Go to www.parrotplace.ca, find a lovebird breeder (there's an entire list of them), and ask him/her what to do. Really helpful.

  2. Before you got the bird didn't anyone ever tell you that lovebirds aren't as their names state? Complete opposite. It's most likely a female sounds as if she wants a mate. What you described is typical parrot breeding behavior.

  3. Hey i had love birds as pets, many of them fell ill and died. If a lovebird has got illnes it will just close his eyes and sit quietly just like a person who has not got any strength, this is the most important sign of illness. Another important sign that he will not eat anything. Lovebird just goes crazy in the bottom of his cage does it mean that he runs from one end to other then i think it is pretty normal if he is alone or even when kept in pair. Other sign as u stated are secondary. But it would be better if u take him to a doctor if u doubt.
