My lovebird just sits on her perch. Is she sick?

I have heard that lovebirds do better in pairs, but will do fine on their own with lots of attention. I have had my lovebird for months, and I think I might need to take her to the vet. She doesn't play with her toys or move around much in her cage. She has a good appetite and preens. I take her out to play twice a day for about 40 minutes to an hour each time. She is animated and energetic when she is out, but sits on the same perch for hours in her cage. I talk to her and whistle to her throughout the day, and she will sing back to me. I have tried lots of different toys and new foods. What is wrong with this bird? Is this lack of movement a sign she is sick?

  1. my love bird is just the same ,

  2. Probably not.

It's probably not anything to worry about, considering she has an good appetite and uses her energy to preen too.

Maybe she is lonely, or wanting your attention a lot?

I'm a lovebird fan, and I've read that they're the "big birds in little bodies", so they have big and vivid personalities too.

Maybe your lovebird isn't much of a cage body. ^_^ And it sounds like (to me) that she's an attention-hog. x]

Try (if you can) letting her out more in the daytime. Or if not, you could try and rotate the toys around a bit every time you clean out the p**p and stuff. At least then, she'll have a chance to explore a "new surrounding" and won't be as bored in her cage as she is now.

    Hope that helped!

  3. Some are like that. Count that as a blessing. My male is always going crazy, chirping, and begging to get out. And when hes on me he wont stay still. He just became a father for the first time to two babies that hatched yesturday and today. He still hates being in the cage and wants to be with me. the mother does all the work.

Basically I would love to have a quiet lovebird and know shes not sick, because if she was she wouldnt even want to be out.

Watch her she might just be a quiet bird, Lovebirds have different personalities. all the other signs of health are good.

When they are sick they usuall stop takeing care of themselves and sit at the bottem of the cage.

    Dont worry.
