She's 19 1/2 so I understand that she is tired but she just seems so sad.

Her 'half' brother Slingsby recently died :( (about 1 month ago)

He was 20 and she'd be with him since we got her, so all her life.

I think she misses him because she was NEVER a cuddly cat but now she always snuggles with me and if I'm watching tele or something she'll sit next to me.

Also she was a silent cat until now. Now if we're in a different room or up stairs she cry's so loudly it's unreal!!! It's not a meow but a definite scream/ cry.

She also sleeps constantly and just mopes around the house not wanting to go outside unless we're in the garden.

What can I do to make my little cat abit more happier?

  1. Aw, Its like she is pining for him. And always comfort her when she comes up to you. She is feeling alone now, as she has lost her best friend. Bless her. Im sorry for your loss.

  2. get her a new friend!

    or may be a boyfriend!!

i mean a cute male cat

  3. Just be with her; elderly cats often become more vocal and suddenly more friendly especially if it wasn't in its nature previously. Just be with her.

  4. I'm sorry to hear about Slingsby and it sounds like she's really missing him.  The Messy Beast web site has a wonderful article "When Cats Grieve" which has lots of information and advice about how you can help comfort her.

Bearing in mind her age, keep an eye on her to make sure that she doesn't lose her appetite as this can be dangerous for their health.

  5. Have you considered aquiring another cat? Preferably a much younger one... for her to play with and keep company?

  6. be extra nice to her.  she's missing her brother.  lots of affection, special treats.  I'd hold off on getting another cat for now.

  7. you are doing all you can. dont leave her alone. take her outside with you. let her sleep with you.

  8. Our 14 year old cat died 2 months ago and our 3 year old cat is still heartbroken and behaving like you've described your cat as behaving.

I took puss to the vet and he gave him some tablets which didn't really help him but they suggested just indulging him in fuss, cuddles and playing with him, although he hated fuss when the other cat was alive.

We were also advised to get another cat but we don't want to do that, so we are just letting him approach us for lovings whenever he wants.

Cats can suffer from grieve anxiety apparently and we're just letting our cat just express his behaviour as he wants to.

    Hope things improve.

  9. she may be under distess or misses her brother just incase take her to a vet and dont forget she is very old

  10. keep everything as normal as possible =] try catnip etc if your goign to get another cat i would get two cats of the same age because your cat may not live for that long and you dont want the same situation again =]
