My male cat is a year old and part Russia Blue. I've noticed recently he scoots his butt on the floor.

He's an inside cat and is leaving tread marks on carpet and floors. My sister told me something about glands on his back end being plugged up. Common with Russian Blue breed. He has been neutered! What is this behavior?

  1. Maybe he has worms, he should be de -wormed every few months, he seems uncomfortable, take him to a vet now

  2. I would make sure that he does not have worms, as this is a sign of an infestation. Get it checked out by a vet

  3. That isn't a nice site to see. Is it?...

I am pretty sure your sister is on the right track. I did a little research on this strange behavior. This is what I got.

cats and dogs sometimes scoot when their anal glands need to be expressed.

Most sites are saying something similar to the same things.

I hope I helped you a little and I hope you have great luck finding the information you need.

The link below is a site, mainly about cats. I am sure it will have some more information on what you are looking for.

  4. Check with a vet, but I think the glands that your sister was talking about are the ones for marking territory that are not removed by neutering. They need to be cleaned by a vet periodically.

  5. That means he probably has worms. Take him to the vet asap.

  6. He may have worms.  Have you had him checked by a vet yet?  If not, please make an appointment as soon as you can, worms can kill an animal if left untreated.  If it is a blocked gland, the vet will be able to express it safely.  It sounds gross, but look at his a**s, if there is something tiny and moving, he may have worms.  If it's swollen, it may be the gland, if it's poopy - then his butt itches because it's dried p**p (no, seriously - my oldest Maine Coon Jynx is too large to clean her butt, and if I don't get her groomed regularly, she will scoot her butt to get it off, just like we use toilet paper).

Good Luck - I also have a Russian Blue (named Monster) and I love how he makes me laugh, it's a great breed!
