Window guy came over without calling and my male cockatiel flew right out and away!!! Saddest day I had in a while :-( but didn't want to have my female by herself so I adopted another male that looked like my old one and they are already preening each other and singing to each other too. Do you think its possible they will get along and maybe mate? This female was a heavy breeder and had clutches very frequently.

  1. yes most likely she willl have babies. good luck and im sorry to hear he flew away =(

  2. She will mate if she was a heavy breeder unless the bird you bought is too young for her

  3. Yes.  She seems to be doing pretty well already.

  4. Yes she will grow to love another.....  You should make sure to watch the lost and found ads.  You could call any local wildlife rehabilitation organization in your area and let them know you lost your bird.  Often people find lost pet birds and call wild bird rehabilitation groups because they don't know what to do with the bird they find.  You might also set your birds in their cage out side for some morning sunshine and the lost bird might here them and fly down to the cage.  Just don't set them in any direct hot sun.

  5. It sounds like they like each other (though unless the new bird wasn't living with any other birds, quarantining would've been the best idea, but it's late for that now)... but have you tried to get your first male back?  That's what you should really be concerned with.  Print out fliers with his picture and your contact info on them and put them up at places where people look, like community boards at libraries and churches, vet offices, shelters, pet stores, and other stores.  Bring the other two birds outside in their cage(s?) sometime when you can stay with them to supervise and see if they attract him (but don't open that cage while outside because you don't want them flying away, too).

Also, when you say the female "was a heavy breeder and had clutches very frequently", what exactly do you mean?  How frequently?  If you're breeding her, then you know that laying eggs and caring for chicks really takes a toll on the hen, and therefore shouldn't be done too frequently.
