I used to breed Guppies. Well, I got rid of all but one since I only have a 10 gallon tank. Well, we thought he might be lonely so yesterday we got him a friend.(Another male.) Since the second we put the new one in his tank untill now, he has been following him around. Today we were thinking of getting another one so the yellow one could have some space and my guppy will stop following just him around. The new guppy looks agitated. WILL THIS WORK???

Also, how long does it take for a guppy to grow up? Because the one I bred is like 6-7 months old and is way smaller than the new one. He also has a hump in his back.

  1. All male guppies are waaaay oversexed and will try to breed with anything that comes close to them.  It is natural for them to follow each other around.

As far as the hump in your male's back, it is most likely a deformaty from inbreeding.  Many guppies are born with spinal problems after brothers and sisters spend a lot of time together.  Professional breeders remove them (they are called culls) and feed them to larger predatory fish.

  2. The hump is a skeletal deformity.  Don't let that fish breed or they can pass it on.  Guppies sold in stores have been selected for colour and body shape and size.  The rejects are sold as feeder fish.

  3. it might help but its not a certain thing becuase hes gonna do what he wants. the hump in his back could keep him from growing because i had one that a servere hump and he never grew
