My mare had her baby last night!?

she had a baby boy, and I need barn name choices for him, we aren't sure what to call him yet. He is very sweet, and strong! I'll post pics ASAP!

Oh I'm so bad with names... I think you should just give it sometime and see what he's like. I always find it better to wait and get to know any animals personality before choosing a name.

What we use to do for new foals was just call them Peanut until they showed their personalities a little more.  By then we had a registered name & just used a bit of that or we just came up with another name that suited it until we had a registered name.

All of ours at this time get called a part of their registered name, but we have had others with more common names also.  Shorty, Buck, Sarge, Sparky, etc.

The moment I saw him the name Tonka came to me. I know in the Native American language it means "great" and or "big." Plus names that have meaning to the horse are special. If he is strong and sweet he sounds like a great foal. Congratulations and good luck! P.S. I also like the name Twist for a colt because it's a twist of fate that you would have a colt.

He is sooo adorable! You should think of something with a meaning to the colt. For example, I have a rescued Premarin mare and she was pregnant and had a colt.  I am going to get married in Hawaii so I wanted a a Hawaiian name, so he was named Moke which means saved in Hawaiian, since I rescued them both essentially.  I think it should come from you and what is special about this colt.  Those mean the most! And unique names are so much fun!

I think you need to wait and feel out his personality a bit and then toss a few names around.

It took me 3 weeks to come up with a name for my filly.

She had a new name every day til one flowed easily for her.

Congrats!  He's gorgeous!  The dam is a looker too!

*I did take note of that front right leg like the other person.  The other thing I noticed right off is that white "tear" (as in rip) in the marking along the left side.  That thin white strip.  See what I mean?*

I'm jealous! My pinto mare was bred to a pinto stud and I got a solid chestnut with a few white hairs on his face! I love him though. =) And your colt is a looker! The first thing that came to my mind was Snipper.  But like someone else said, get his personality first.  My guy was also close to 3 weeks old before I decided on Aiden for him name from his show name of Admissible Evidence.  Best of luck with him!!
